Improving Castle Park
Castle Park was one of the topics that came up time and time again when we were consulting with local people to create the Penrith Community Plan.
The park is one of the town’s greatest assets, but it’s very under used and showing its age in many respects.
Castle Park Development Group has already done a lot of work in consulting and planning for improvements to the park, with the aim of totally upgrading it and turning it into a destination of choice and a centre for cultural and heritage events. The key themes of sport, play and relaxation will all be enhanced as part of the plan.
We agreed to lend our support to this really important improvement project for the town, and our representatives are now working with the development group, Eden District Council and Penrith Town Council to develop plans for a major upgrade and the submission of a Stage 1 Heritage Lottery Fund application by February 2017.
If we are successful in this first stage, the development group would then put together a detailed proposal for how the park should be improved, and this would go forward to the Heritage Lottery Fund as the second part of the process. We would have up to 26 months to develop these detailed plans for the park and submit this bid for funding.
We will be contacting local community groups in due course to obtain further responses to all the suggestions that have been made about the park upgrade, so watch this space.
